Thanksgiving in Mexico

This year we were invited to have Thanksgiving in Mexico. Scott's sister and her husband co-own a beach-front house (2nd from left) about an hour and a half south of Rocky Point. It was so fun! I'd never been to the beach with my kids before and had just bought a new camera before the trip so there are a zillion pictures to choose from. It was so relaxing and private. There were usually no more than 3 other families on the beach at any given time (other than our extended family). We had 33 people in the house but it was plenty spacious.

Kaycie and Ty loved playing with their cousins and never wanted to go to bed at night. The water temp in the ocean was not too bad either. Kids were playing in it, adults were boogy-boarding and kayaking. We did lots of riding quads and rhinos down the beach. It was one of the best vacations ever, not to mention pretty cheap. Each family took turns in charge of a meal so that was nice also. On the way back to the states, we stopped in Rocky Point for lunch and to let the kids experience the marketplace. Unfortunately, someone decided to steal both coolers out of the back of our truck. Not surprised. Just surprised they didn't take the suitcases. Kaycie was mad that someone stole her last bag of fruit snacks. Luckily they only got dry foods and a bag of wet towels/bathing suits in those coolers. It was a memorable trip and we look forward to visiting more often!

Twilight Movie

So I saw the Twilight movie tonight. I went with low expectations so as not to be disappointed. Therefore I wasn't too disappointed. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you might not want to read on.

There were parts that had you laughing they were so silly. There were awkward parts. There was the fact that Edward was not cute at all and always looked like he had just been drinking fruit punch. I just like pictures in my mind from the books better.

Carrie Underwood

Some friends and I had the opportunity to go to a Carrie Underwood concert last weekend. It was so much fun. I haven't been to many concerts in my life....Beach Boys when I was 9 or 10, Sheryl Crow :( at the fair on my first date with Scott and recently The Police reunion concert with Scott's brothers and sisters. Carrie Underwood was the best though. Probably because I know all her songs by heart. I think Krystin had the idea of making shirts for the concert with some jewels. We ended up only having enough to spell Carrie but they turned out really cute. Some of our husbands laughed at us accusing us of being 13 years old but it was worth it. We got a lot of compliments at the concert on the shirts anyway. We all talked about how we were going to get crazy during the concert and dance and sing....there was some singing, a little dancing and a lot of yawning (I can only speak for myself about the yawning part). Though my friend Tarah mentioned how old we were getting being so tired at such a fun concert. After the concert and probably because of all the caffine we got a little sillier and thanks to our friend Sage's husband, took some funny shots. Thanks for such a fun night Holly, Tarah & Krystin! And thanks to our husbands who let us go!

Partially My Creation

Has anyone seen those really old weathered-looking temple pics in sepia? They're usually $500 at Deseret Book. Anyway I've been wanting to duplicate it for cheaper. My ward made some small 2x2 frames for a Super Saturday (see earlier post) and I wanted to create a large scale one for my sister's super cool photo of the AZ temple. Special thanks go to my friend Tif for helping me get the super heavy mdf and other materials at Lowe's (not a job for someone pregnant) and also for helping cut and put it together with your cool home woodshop equipment. And special thanks go to Mel for the beautiful photo. I guess all I did want paint and sand and antique it but it was fun!

Halloween

This was Halloween this year. Scott and I didn't really dress up for our family party. I know...it was just a crazy day and I was tired. Kaycie was a zookeeper. You can hardly see the cute monkey that's wrapped around her. Almost everyone thought she was Bindi the Jungle Girl (steve irwin's daughter).

To overpack or underpack?

So Sunday morning my sister-in-law Tami called and asked if we wanted to go to Disneyland that day. Scott had a rare day off on Monday and we decided to go for it. He has a business credit card that has earned enough points to get us some free rooms at a Sheraton across from Disneyland so that helped a lot with the cost.

I decided to pack very light since we would only be gone one day. All 4 of us fit our things in one tiny little carry-on bag. That's it, the one tiny bag included all our clothes, pajamas, hair dryer, make up, shoes...everything. We don't have babies anymore so why pack a ton of extra clothes just in case, right? Wrong. So on the drive the kids slept half the way. Shortly after they woke up Ty started feeling sick. We stopped at an In & Out Burger to eat and made a couple of false alarm trips to the bathroom. He could eat fries. I grabbed a couple of paper to-go bags and we headed out again. About 2 hours later and 0nly 10 minutes from the hotel, we hear the throwing up. I tell him that he's such a good boy to throw up in the bag and he'll feel much better soon. Anyway, there are 2 or 3 napkins under the bag that he's done with and I need them to wipe his face. I pick up the bag off the back floor to move it up front so that I can get to the napkins and being made of thin paper...it breaks right as I'm transferring it over my seat to the front. I didn't think to double bag which was Scott's fabulous after thought. So I'm sitting in a lake of you know what. It's on my clothes, seat and all over the front floor. Sick. I only had the 2 or 3 napkins to clean up the huge mess. This is where it would have been nice to have a baby because we would have had wipes. Luckily 10 minutes of agony later, we got to the hotel and Tami had lots of wipes. I cleaned a majority of it up but you can never get rid of the smell. Luckily I brought separate pants and a shirt for the next day at Disneyland.

That night we figure out room sharing. Did I mention that half Scott's family decided to go last minute? The 4 of us, Tami and her family of 5, Eric & Laura with their baby, his mom and 2 sisters and lastly his oldest sister Lori and her husband with their 8 kids plus a friend! So anyway most of us are staying at the same hotel and decide that his mom will share a room with our family. There were only 2 double beds and a chair w/ottoman in the corner. Kaycie was the lucky one who got to sleep in the chair. In the middle of the night, she got into bed with us and being the tiny bed that it was, her and I were spooning. About 2am I wake up to a very warm sensation spreading over my pregnant belly. She peed on me. Ugh!!! I already hadn't had much sleep and this was bound to take another hour or 2 out of my night. I couldn't put my comfy travel clothes back on because they had throw up on them and my pajamas now had pee on them. I had to put something else one since I was sharing a room with my mother-in-law so Scott decided to give me his t-shirt he had been wearing to sleep in. I wasn't about to sleep in maternity jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Those were for Disneyland. I tried to sleep the rest of the night on a couple layers of bath towels. Fun stuff.

The next day was Disneyland where I fully expected to be soiled in some other random way. Everything went well though. We had a lot of fun. Kaycie was scared of every ride in the park except Autopia and the teacups. She was even scared of Alice in wonderland and Winnie the Pooh. Anything that had a car entering through doors into the dark was not her cup of tea. We made her go on Haunted Mansion and Pirates since those were some of the few rides I could go on. She was not thrilled. She did have fun with all her cousins in between rides though. We left Disneyland at 7:30 or so to go back to the hotel and get our car. Scott had to work the next day and we arrived home at about 2am. It was so fun though. I'm glad we did it. Next time I think I'll go back to the whole overpacking thing though (as much as Scott hates it) and I'll bring lots of plastic bags.

Teeny T-Ball

A couple of weeks ago Ty started T-ball for the first time. It's pretty hilarious watching the games. There aren't many rules and none of the kids know what to do at any given moment. It's chaos. I love how their huge helmets make them look even more puney (sp?). Ty did pretty good his first game. He stopped a ball that came his way but didn't know what to do with it once he had it. He finally threw it to 1st but not in time. The second game he played catcher. He loved playing catcher. He was only too happy to put the ball back on the tee for every batter. For the that game I broke down and bought him pants and cleats. Most everyone on his team had them. So after that his pants were all red from the dirt and I mentioned taking them home and washing them for the next game. He freaked out and said that if I washed them, he wouldn't look like a real baseball player anymore. His coaches and their kids are in our ward so he's got some friends on the team. The only thing that makes me sad is that Scott has never been able to make it to any soccer or t-ball games. His current work schedule doesn't even allow him to make it to evening practices. I'm hoping that doesn't last too much longer. He's always wanted Ty to participate in sports and now he's missing the cutest years.

Another Conference Come & Gone

I loved conference this last weekend. Missed the first session because of Ty's first Tball game (more on that later when I have a good picture to post) but the other sessions were wonderful. I love how they always say what we need to hear. First of all the story about Elder Wirthlin's daughter...HILARIOUS!! On a more serious note, Elder Christofferson's talk really hit me. I've been so obsessed lately with decorating/furnishing/organizing my house...probably a pregnancy thing. It's not like I've been wanting to blow through money like there's no tomorrow. I've been looking for deals on craigslist, ebay, etc. but now I'm a little more content to just leave it be for a little longer. Someone in our bishopric recently mentioned that our ward's biggest problem right now is supporting all those families that need financial support. Apparently fast offerings haven't been plentiful lately. Elder Christofferson's talk made me take a look at what I really need compared to how I can help build up zion. He talked of a poor family with nothing that cut their table in half and fashioned 2 new legs on each table. They gave one half to a family who they thought needed it. If someone struggling to get by can do something like that, then I can stop worrying about furniture/nic-nacs I don't really NEED and I can contribute more to my ward, my local zion if you will. We're not financially well off by any means right now...i don't know many who are...but we're not struggling to feed our family or pay our bills either. There's a little extra to give out. Ty even said we could have a garage sale and picked some toys to sell to help others. Sometimes he's not such a bad kid :) I love this church.

I'm so dang bummed!!!

I just have to share my serious frustration right now. I have been spending countless hours this last week looking for ideas for nursery bedding. I can't find anything that I really like. But then tonight I found this on potterybarnkids.com under the sale items. It's called Ava. However it's all sold out except for a bumper in the purple version of the collection. Ugh. I am seriously in love with this nursery set and it's discountinued and I can't find a single mention of it on the web anywhere! Somebody has got to be selling it somewhere in this world!!!

Twilight Series

So I read the whole Twilight Series last week. I know people who hated them, loved them and then hated them and loved them the whole way through. I'll have to side with the latter. I'm not sure I want to watch the movie when it comes out though. It probably won't be as good. But I thought the books were very entertaining. 2 thumbs up.

Spiderwick Chronicles Are True!

And a big fat thank you to the director of Spiderwick Chronicles. Tonight we watched it with Ty. He saw it in the movies and had to leave after 30 minutes because he was scared but tonight he wanted to rent it. He promised he wouldn't be scared watching it at home with mommy. So we watched it. Kaycie's mermaid movie ended early and she caught the last 20 minutes of the movie...the scariest part. Anyhoo, after the movie both kids were scared and didn't want to go to bed. I tried explaining that the movie was pretend but could tell they didn't get it. So a lightbulb went off over my head. The DVD's these days have "Making of" special features on them. So I explained to Ty that we were going to watch how the movie is pretend. I go to the special features menu and see "Spiderwick Chronicles: Are True". Thinking it was a sarcastic reference to the "making of", I clicked on it. On comes the director...perfect, he'll explain it. He says "Hi I'm [so&so], the director of The Spiderwick Chronicles. This movie is true. All the goblins and creatures you've seen are real. Everyone working on this movie has seen them...." and on and on he goes. The words might not be exact but that's the jist of what he said. I couldn't believe it. Ty said "See mom! It is true." Thanks director [so & so].

Scott's New Office

I've been meaning to take pictures of Scott's new office for a while. Luckily his equipment company took some and posted them on their website. I hope they don't mind if I borrow them.

2nd Thoughts?

So Scott's family has a family website and I posted the bus story on there since a lot of them aren't blog savvy. This was one of my sister-in-laws responses...

"I fell asleep on the bus once and they forgot to check for me. When I woke up I was in one of the bus parking lots and the bus had been locked up. I pushed down the window and tried getting help. Eventually some one walking by saw me and came and got me out. All I remember is that the bus driver (who was an employee at my day care) had to take me to the circus for making a mistake."

I wonder if I should be having 2nd thoughts about this bus thing? Luckily Ty's not prone to falling asleep during the day. Also, does anyone else besides me have a problem with the end of the story? Bus driver taking a kid to the circus. Um, no.
